REMARKABLE BOOK FOR LEAN OFFICEOct 28, 2006
By Nancy L. Dunn
"(No relation to the co-author)"
As having read all the books that have come out the past few years regarding Lean being applied in administrative areas, I found Lean Office Demystified the most down-to-earth and practical set of tools in which would allow any office to fully understand and implement the Toyota Production System in these areas. The book has a comprehensive set of worksheets and forms I have ever seen. The Readiness Guides at the end of each of the three Phases are superb in gauging whether you have a good understanding of the material and if you should proceed to the next phase. I have previously purchased the same author's The Lean Office Pocket Guide as an excellent reference. Lean Office Demystified is the complete 1-2-3 step-by-step approach how each Lean office tool should be implemented. We will be purchasing these for all of our office managers to they can get the understanding on the importance of process control. The Lean tools of takt time, standard work, value stream mapping, process mapping, problem-solving, continuous flow, 5S, kanbans (for office supplies), document tagging, etc. are explained and illustrated for any level of office personnel. A strong recommendation to buy!

Wow!Mar 09, 2008

I have never seen the office environment so clearly analyzed from a lean perspective. This book is deceptively simple and easy to understand... and dare I say it, fun to read! I would highly recommend it for those in an office setting who want to start implementing lean tools - without hiring a consultant, reading big heavy books with small print, or flipping through boring PowerPoints. A must-have for the office!

Lean Office 1-2-3 and Still Going StrongMay 26, 2007
By Lindsey E. Keyes
"Director, Operational Excellence"
I just wanted to update this review. After nearly two years we are still referencing the Office File System in Chapter 8. We have adapted it as an Excel spreadsheet, but the overall purpose of what the Master Document does is a great administrative Lean tool to control and improve processes. We have created 5S Audit teams, using many of the principles contained in this book. I have read the other Lean Office books and found those too theoretical. This book is the How To! It is still going strong in our organization.

A Great Start to the Lean OfficeMay 08, 2009

Lean Office Demystified gave me a general overview on how Lean can apply in administrative settings. What I like most about this book is the slant it takes on working with people in the office environment. This book is not meant to introduce startling new concepts and ideas, it is meant to provide a basic understanding (demystifies) on how Lean can be applied in the non-manufacturing world. This book is a simple and easy read, and provided me with ideas on what I need to do in improving our administrative processes. It was a nice touch to have The 5S Desktop Pocket Guide included, which, by itself, is also a great book.

An Easy to Understand Book That Covers it AllFeb 20, 2009
By Joe D. Buys Even companies that have used Lean initiatives on the manufacturing floor can benefit from this book. It's not good enough to just Lean out your production. In order to become truly Lean it has to extend from the front door out the back door. This book does a great job of explaining the philosophy, tools and forms for implementing Lean in any administration or office area. I was amused by one reviewers comments about the techniques in the book being before computers. The truth is many, many companies rely on inadequate computer data to develop their metrics. As a Lean consultant I can't tell you how many times I've had to have clients scrap their computer data and use some of the forms in this book to get accurate information. What do they say... garbage in garbage out. This is a great book. I highly recommend it for any office or industry that wants to eliminate waste in their administration areas.
