In the United States, kaizen is usually an event of from three to five days in duration. It is comprised of intensive improvement activities directed at specific areas of a business. The main goal of kaizen is the elimination of non-value-added activities (waste) through the implementation of one-piece flow, working to takt time, and instituting a pull system. The mantra is to manufacture only what is needed by the customer, when it is needed, and in the quantities ordered. Kaizen has been shown to collapse lead times, dramatically reduce work in process, and reduce scrap and defects while minimizing the need for capital expenditures. Its successful results across industry are real, proven, documented, and confirmed! The first step to implementing kaizen in any organization is to provide training on the Toyota Production System (TPS). The "Kaizen Event Implementation Manual," Fifth Edition begins with this never-before documented training material, but goes further to explain why the TPS tools, including kaizen, must work in tandem with a new way of thinking to bring about cultural change. By thinking "lean" and applying kaizen, everyone in the organization is empowered to eliminate waste, in all of its forms, at all levels, all the time.Flexibility, simplicity and the quest for constant improvement become the driving goals. | | | Product Details: | | | Author:

Forget top down managementJan 24, 2007
By Linda J. Ullrich
"MPA, BA MT(ASCP)SH"
It is obvious that the author has "walked the walk" and not just "talked the talk"! While grounded in theory, the author's style is colloquial enough for lay personnel to absorb the material and put it to use. The information is down to earth, not in the ivory tower of education's stronghold or dry university classes. The step-by-step information is not so specific as to prevent it from use by those outside the general realm of manufacturing processes. The broad-based information is such that even hospital areas like clinical laboratories can benefit from the expertise and exercises. The concept of changing the foundation/social structure/culture of an organization has proven difficult for old top-down management. The up-coming cadre of workers is no longer accepting old style management as the be-all and end-all -- They want/need/expect to be part of the solution, not the problem. This manual can guide even the least of these in the right direction.

We bought enough for the whole plant!Mar 06, 2007
By Mark Doolittle This is the one book that belongs on the shop floor. We give a copy to each worker and use it as our "bible".
Finally a 'recipe' type book that is complete and enlightening. Sensei Mika has put together a solid how-to-do-it book.
A good reference book for terminology and has an excellent simulation package.
We tried the 4 step training approach and it works!!!
I wish there were books like this for Poka-yoke and other elements of the Toyota Production System
